Listening Assignment 1 - Fall 2020
This semester we are studying the classical time period in musical history. Listening Assignment 1 is Mozart's Turkish March, from Sonata No. 11 K331 and we are going to have a little fun with the piece this month. Playing music is more than playing the notes on the page! The first recording is the piece played as written, although the performer plays it very fast. Then I have included famous musicians playing this piece, but adding their own spin!
Turkish March, Rondo Alla Turca, played as written by the famous pianist Lang Lang
Yuja Wang plays her variation of Rondo Alla Turca
Flutists Sir James Galaway and Lady Jeanne Galaway version
And Finally clarinetist Marten Altrov
The Complete Mozart Piano Sonata no. 11 in A Major
This well-known piece is actually part of Sonata no. 11. Sonata no. 11 by Mozart has three movements and Alla Turca is the final movement. Listen here as Olga Jegunova performs the complete Sonata. You may recognize more of the music in this famous work!
