Lessons

Miss Paula’s Music studio offers instruction in piano, flute, clarinet and saxophone. Lessons are well-rounded: solid technique is taught along classical instruction; but, we go further than the usual music instruction. Students also learn improvisation, reading chord sheets, duet playing, and music theory through games as well as traditional workbooks.

Lessons are offered as private instruction, buddy lessons, or group. Online Lessons are available for private studio lessons through Zoom or FaceTime. With technology today it is easy to schedule all online lessons or a combination of online and in-person.

Studio events are also offered as part of the lesson package. Every year studio events will be offered and may include any of the following: Music parties, Group workshops, Studio class, and Community Concerts.

Area exams, auditions and festivals are also available for students to participate. The studio is a member of National Federation of Music Clubs (NFMC), Music Teachers National Association (AMTA), and the Royal Conservatory of Music (RCM).

Preschool:

Music lessons can begin during the preschool years. For preschoolers ages 3.5 - 5 I offer the following:

Mini-Minstrel Groups: Minstrel groups offer a guided musical experience to prepare preschoolers for playing piano or another instrument. No pressure or practicing is required for this option. Preschool children will explore music concepts that will get them ahead in school and learning. Actively participating in music learning teaches students patterns both visually and aurally, develops hand/eye coordination, and creates new connections between the hemispheres in the brain.

  • 45 minute weekly classes for 16 weeks each semester
  • Small groups of 4-6 students
  • Classes include moving, singing, improvising on instruments, and learning about music concepts with games.

Buddy Lessons: For preschoolers who are ready for more structured lesson times and whose parents will work with them at home during the week. Buddy lessons are offered for piano, and any of the Nuvo instruments: Recorder, Toot, or Dood.

  • The lesson lasts 30 minutes each week. 20 minute private and 20 minute with their music buddy.
  • During the two student's overlapping lesson time students will work on duets, theory games, and ensemble improvisation.
  • Students are required to practice at home during the week and will need their own quality working instrument.
